Our Story
Lloyd and Ann began home winemaking in 2000. They had enjoyed experimenting with different wines for many years and wanted to give their own ideas a try. Their first attempts turned out so well that their friends began encouraging them to think in the direction of starting their own winery. Shortly after they made the leap and begin taking serious winemaking classes at UC Davis. For the next few years they studied everything they could about making wines and opening a winery. In 2003 the State of WA and the Federal Government granted the Anderson's a permit to open Walter Dacon Wines. Their first crush in the fall of 03, with friends and family gathered around, was the beginning celebration of their first vintages. Their inaugural wines were put in the barrels by November and while they aged, work began on the tasting room. By May of 2005, the tasting room was open and all of the 2003 vintages made their debut. It was then that C'est Syrah Belle, C'est Syrah Beaux and C'est Syrah Magnifique, had their grand entrance onto the Washington wine scene. By the next year Wine Spectator had rated their Belle 89 pts, the Beaux 88 pts and their Magnifique received an amazing 91 pts, the winery was off and running. The tasting room was a hit from the beginning, with the meticulously restored, vintage circulation desk from the Fremont Library in Seattle Wa, circa 1917, to the expertly hand crafted art that hangs above the tasting bar. The portrait of Lloyd's grandfather, Walter Dacon hangs proudly over the entire winery. Today guests, volunteers and winetasters from all over the world come to Walter Dacon to "Experience the Rhone", as they drive through the one-of-a-kind wrought iron gate created by local and national artist Nancy Moore, the guests at Walter Dacon feel that they have arrived at one of the Northwest's most charming boutique wineries. When you decide to visit the majestic Olympic Peninsula, stopping by Walter Dacon is a "must destination". Close to the beautiful shores of Hood Canal (the only fiord in the lower 48) and minutes away from hiking, kayaking and 5 star accommodations, Walter Dacon and it's fabulous wines and tasting room, create a true wine lovers experience. |
